DFW averages 10+ damaging hail events per year. If your roof took a hit in the last storm, the damage may not be visible from the ground. We find it, document it, and help you file the claim. Free inspections.

DFW Storm Damage: What to Look For

Hail damage is the most common form of storm damage in Dallas-Fort Worth. North Texas sits squarely in "Hail Alley," and major hail events hit the Metroplex multiple times per year. On asphalt shingles, hail leaves circular impact marks that crack the surface and displace protective granules. You'll often see heavy granule accumulation in your gutters and at the base of your downspouts after a hailstorm — those granules are your roof's UV and weather protection, and once they're gone, the exposed asphalt mat deteriorates rapidly.

Metal components take visible hits: look for dents in flashing, roof vents, exhaust caps, and ridge vent material. Soft metals like aluminum gutters and downspouts show hail damage clearly. If you can see dents in your gutters from the ground, your shingles almost certainly took the same impact. The difference is that shingle damage often isn't visible without standing on the roof and examining individual shingles up close.

Wind damage presents differently. High winds lift shingle tabs starting at the edges and ridge line, tearing them loose or folding them back to expose the underlayment beneath. Straight-line winds from severe thunderstorms and microbursts can exceed 80 mph in DFW, strong enough to peel entire sections of shingles off a roof. You'll also see debris impact damage — tree branches punching through decking, blown objects striking the roof surface, and gutters torn loose from fascia boards.

After any significant DFW storm — particularly the spring severe weather season from March through June — we recommend a professional roof inspection. Most damage that leads to leaks and interior water damage started as storm damage that went undetected and unrepaired for months.

Why You Need to Act Fast After a Storm

Texas insurance deadlines are real. Most homeowner's policies in Texas give you one year from the date of damage to file a claim. Some carriers have moved to shorter windows. If you miss the deadline, the damage is on you — even if it was clearly caused by a documented storm event. The clock starts ticking the day of the storm, not the day you discover the damage.

Unrepaired storm damage doesn't stay the same — it gets worse. A cracked shingle from a spring hailstorm becomes a leak by fall. That leak becomes rotted decking, wet insulation, and mold growth within 6–12 months. Here's the critical part: your insurance claim covers the original storm damage. Secondary damage caused by failure to repair — water damage, mold, rotted wood — is often excluded. You end up paying out of pocket for damage that would have been fully covered if you'd acted promptly.

A word about storm chasers: after every major DFW hail event, out-of-state roofing companies flood the area going door to door. They sign contracts, collect insurance proceeds, do the work (sometimes), and leave. When problems arise six months later, they're gone. No warranty support, no local office, no accountability. Work with a DFW-based contractor who will be here next year and the year after. We've been roofing DFW for years and our office is at 4300 MacArthur Ave in Dallas.

Our Storm Damage Process

Step 1: Contact us.Call, text, or submit the form on this page. We'll schedule a free inspection within 24–48 hours. If you have an active leak or emergency situation, we prioritize same-day response.

Step 2: Full roof inspection and documentation. We get on your roof with a camera and measure every area of damage. Photos, measurements, notes — everything documented. We inspect shingles, flashing, ridge caps, vents, pipe boots, gutters, soffit, and fascia. We also check your attic for signs of water intrusion that haven't shown up on your ceiling yet.

Step 3: Inspection report and recommendation. We walk you through what we found with photos. If the damage warrants an insurance claim, we tell you exactly how to file. If it's a minor repair that doesn't meet your deductible, we give you a straightforward estimate for the fix.

Step 4: Meet the insurance adjuster. When the adjuster comes out, we meet them at your property. We walk the roof together, point out every area of damage we documented, and make sure nothing gets missed. Having a knowledgeable contractor on-site during the adjuster's inspection makes a significant difference in claim outcomes.

Step 5: Claim approved, work scheduled.Once your claim is approved, we schedule the replacement or repair. You pay your deductible. Insurance covers the rest. If the initial approval doesn't cover the full scope of work, we handle supplements — additional documentation sent to your carrier to cover items the adjuster missed or undervalued.

Storm Damage FAQ

Common questions about storm damage and insurance claims in Dallas-Fort Worth.

Look for visible missing or lifted shingles, especially along the ridges and edges. Check your gutters for unusual amounts of granules — they look like coarse black sand. Look at metal components you can see from the ground: dented gutters, bent downspouts, dents in garage doors or window frames. If your neighbors are getting new roofs after a storm, your roof likely took the same hit. But most hail damage is invisible from the ground. The only reliable way to know is a professional roof inspection from someone standing on the roof.

Call your insurance carrier and report the date of the storm and the damage. They'll assign an adjuster and schedule an inspection. Before the adjuster arrives, have your roof professionally inspected and documented — that's where we come in. We provide a detailed report with photos, measurements, and notes that you can share with your adjuster. On inspection day, we meet the adjuster at your property, walk the roof together, and point out every area of damage. This significantly increases the chance of full claim approval.

The timeline depends on your insurance carrier. After you file, most adjusters schedule their inspection within 1–3 weeks. Once the claim is approved, we can typically schedule the work within 1–2 weeks. The actual roof replacement takes 1–2 days for most homes. Total timeline from storm to completed roof: usually 4–8 weeks. During peak storm season, adjuster wait times can stretch longer, but we stay on top of the process and push for timely scheduling.
